Seasonal Services at OHLC

ADVENT (THE FOUR WEEKS BEFORE CHRISTMAS)
Advent is a season of preparation for Christ’s coming which focuses on anticipation, readiness, and hope. The color of the season is deep blue, like the color of the sky just before dawn.
During the Advent season we have midweek services at Noon and 6:00pm, followed by soup suppers at 12:30pm and 6:30pm.
CHRISTMAS (THE NATIVITY OF OUR LORD)
Lutherans love Christmas. Many of the traditions observed across Christianity (including the Christmas tree) have their origins in Lutheran Christianity.
On Christmas Eve we have our children’s Christmas program at 4:00pm, and then traditional services with candlelight and Holy Communion at 7:00pm and 10:00pm.
We also have a service on Christmas day at 10:00am.

LENT AND HOLY WEEK (THE FORTY DAYS BEFORE EASTER)
Lent is a season of preparation for our celebration of Jesus’ resurrection on Easter Sunday. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday with a solemn service of confession and repentance and continues with midweek services at Noon and 6:00pm, followed by soup suppers at 12:30pm and 6:30pm.
This is a season for focusing on discipleship and Jesus’ journey to the cross, and it culminates in special services during Holy Week (the week before Easter) with services commemorating Jesus’ last night with his disciples and his crucifixion.
While not without solemn, serious themes at certain points, the season of Lent is not meant to be dreary or undertaken begrudgingly; rather, it is a season of renewal and growth as we follow Jesus and lift high the cross.
